Your developer activates your colour and your developer selection will determine the finish, coverage, lift and duration that you achieve when you apply a colour + developer blend.

Developers contain varying amounts of hydrogen peroxide, which can lift and opens the hair cuticle to deposit colour within the hair to achieve a permanent colour result (20 and 27 vol developers). The 5 and 10 vol developers will deposit colour on the exterior of the hair to achieve a semi or demi-permanent colour result only.

The higher the volume, the stronger the developer. Stronger developers have more power to open the cuticles of your hair to deposit colour, and can achieve either more lift (lightening) or colour coverage over colour-resistant greys.

Each of our colours can be blended with either our:

• 5 vol developer for a toning or semi-permanent finish
• 10 vol developer for a demi-permanent finish
• 20 vol developer for a permanent colour coverage
• 27 vol developer provides permanent coverage of colour-resistant stubborn greys

5 Vol Developer:

Our 5 vol Developer is the right developer if you want:

• a semi-permanent colour result, or
• balance and boost the tone and shine in your hair, and
• avoid damage, or
• to try a new darker colour temporarily

Colours blended with our 5 vol developer can function as either a semi-permanent colour or a toner, and will temporarily boost and balance your colour, tone and shine.

Toners will counter-balance and mute warmth, leaving a high-shine tonally balanced finish. You can tone and reduce unwanted warmth by blending a lighter colour with cool secondary tones with a 5 vol developer. We recommend selecting a toner which is lighter than the lightest colour level in your hair, so that it will deposit a softer colour, cool tones and shine only, without adding depth.

Semi-permanent colours are the perfect choice if you want to experiment with adding depth or warm or bright tones, without committing to a permanent colour.

Semi’s and toners will last for 6-12 washes, depending on the porosity and condition of your hair. They will leave a sheer tint over greys but they won’t provide grey colour coverage.

10 Vol Developer:

10 vol developer can be used to add depth, same-level colour or to deposit cool or warm secondary tones which will last up to 24 washes. Demi-permanent colour is typically no-lift (although it may achieve a little bit of lift on finely textured or porous hair).

Demi-permanent colour will;

• refresh previously lightened hair
• can be used to add depth
• zero or very minimal lift
• warm or cool secondary tones
• gradually fade away, without leaving a colour demarcation line
• blend greys without providing complete grey coverage

20 Vol Developer:

Our 20 vol developer is the industry standard used to achieve permanent colour results and grey coverage.

Our 20 vol developer will achieve;

• permanent colour results
• 1-1.5 levels of lift (on natural, uncoloured hair)
• grey coverage

27 Vol Developer:

The 27 vol developer is the perfect choice if you

• have colour-resistant greys which are not fully covered using the 20 vol developer
• need 2 levels of lift (use a lighter colour + 27 vol + hair can not have previous colour in it)
