How to Create the Perfect Bun

Let your cheekbones do the talking with the perfect bun.

Buns can be finessed and flawless, or strategically casual. They add an elegant , or a more casual bun with strategic fly-aways which will highlight your bone structure.

  • Placement – The classic ballet topknot bun extends an aesthetically pleasing line from the jaw and cheekbones to the highest top point at the back of your head. A low bun can look sharp with a mid-part, or more casual with some loose, softening wisps.
  • The hair needs to have as much traction or grip in it as possible to stay up. Apply a little Volume powder to absorb your natural oils and to add some texture and grip which helps give your bun hold and shape.
  • Your ponytail will place your bun either at the top, mid or lower point of the back of your head. Making a ponytail will anchor your bun. The trick is to create a smooth surface, use a boar-and-nylon-bristle brush plus hair spray, like our Styling Spray which helps to control flyaways. Wrap the hair tightly around the ponytail base, tucking in the end. We prefer securing our bun with a makes a single big pin that curves to the head — it’s the simplest hair accessory in the world.
  • The Undone Bun – Add some volume through your roots and leaving some locks strategically loose for a soft, elegant look. Slice and curl some face-framing strands before sweeping the rest of your hair up into a high ponytail. Pinch out some loose strands around the nape and the sides so the style feels looser. This elegant style keeps you cooler in summer and has a bouncy finish with lots of movement.
  • The Half Bun – Create a high pony tail using only the hair at the crown, twist and secure with a hair fork.
  • The Treatment Bun – Multi-tasking done right. Be that person who pulls off an effortlessly stylish bun while simultaneously deeply conditioning your hair. Massage a little bit of Repair Mask through your hair after brushing, and use your fingers to comb it back before securing your ponytail, twisting and securing your bun with a hair fork.
